Well since the addition of facebook to my routine, I have totally slacked on the Harris family blog.  So I figured I had better get with it.  So, here it is...the first test post from my droid.

That Nagging 1 Year Anniversary

Its been almost a year since my Mom passed away. The kids still ask about her all her time allthough I'm not sure that they quite understand what really happened. We still feel really cheated that she was taken so young. Thankfully, she was smart enough to leave us a nice long video that she made in the months before her death. We haven't watched it yet, but plan too next week. I suspect that it will be pretty tough to watch and will be quite the tear-jerker.

The family (Leslie, Me, Riley, Sophie, Charlie, Gary, Juli, Grace and Sydney) will be getting together this weekend to say our final goodbyes and spread her ashes in the Beaufort river...to be followed by a big celebratory dinner at the house. Looking forward to seeing everyone!

March Update

It really has been a rough couple of months. As most of you know, my mom passed away in October. Her brother - my awesome Uncle Eddie has too passed away.

Leslie and I went to the memorial service last weekend in Atlanta. For such a sad day, I really had a great time seeing family I hadn't seen in so many years. I hate that a funeral is what it takes now to get everyone together. My cousin Chris put together a great slide show/retrospective of Eddie's life. It was great to see all the old pictures, but it was difficult for me to watch. Lots of pictures of my mom and unc together. It really was heartbreaking.

We stayed with my Grandpa, who still lives in Atlanta. After being a bomber pilot in WWII, being shot down, held as a POW, now has seen both of his children pass away before him. My grandma is still around too, but she has Alzheimer's, and I suspect that she isn't really aware that both her children are now gone.

On the lighter side, I just posted a bunch of pictures of the kiddies. Make sure to go check them out. They are dedicated to Nana & Auntie, who just got to watch the kids for the entire weekend. Our big thanks go out to them for being such a great help to us.

Where have you been?

Hey all...Sorry no posts. I have been putting all my 'posting' on Facebook and on Twitter. You can follow me on at Twitter. Twitter is a bit tough to get used to. I have been on there for a while but I really didn't 'get it' until recently. Anyway, if you get a chance, you should check it out.

All is well here. Kids are big and so am I.

Getting Back to Normal?

Not sure, but we are all trying our best. My thanks go out to everyone who has sent us well-wishes. Its been tough thinking about the loss of Mom, but I still feel like it hasnt sunk in yet. I was talking with Charlie the other night and he brought up a good point. If you don't see someone everyday, it doesn't make that immediate impact. However, if you are living with someone and see them everyday, the impact is much greater, as it is with Charlie. Either way, we miss her.

In other, less sad news, I have been keeping up to date with my picture posts. Make sure to check them out.

Wednesday evening, October 15th, my Mom lost her battle with cancer. We will all miss her so very much. We will be having a celebration of her life (think happy, not sadness)sometime in the near future, perhaps next week. Should you wish to attend, please get in touch. In lieu of flowers, please consider a small donation to:

My thanks to all of the folks at the hospice who helped us so much in the last weeks of her life. We will miss you mom.

A Mention on Forta.com

Wow...and exciting day for me...Just remember that I am a computer nerd when you read this. Ben Forta, for those who don't know (hello Mom), is the Senior Technical Evangelist for Adobe. You know, the guys who make Flash & Acrobat & Photoshop - but more importantly to me, Coldfusion. Well, I learned lots and lots of things by reading Ben's many books. Occasionally, I would email Ben to discuss the goings on in the GIS (er, mapping) world and how it relates to Adobe and its developers. Well, he got wind of my work blog and in turn, blogged about it himself. Thats pretty cool to get a shout out from the man himself....Again, remember that I am a computer nerd...

I Think Riley is Ready For a Show

So, I went up to Myrtle Beach Thursday night to see Moe., which incidentally is in heavy rotation on Riley's (er I mean Leslie's) Ipod. Riley has realy started to listen to music and actually like it. Currently his favorite has to be Cake's cover of War Pigs. In fact..as I am writing this, Riley just asked me to play Tailspin (Moe. - The Conch), which I obliged of course. He has good taste. I almost think he could have gone with me..Only problem was that the House Of Blues allows smoking inside and thats an immediate deal breaker for bringing a kid.

As some of us know, the return of Phish is probably now inevitable. Trey has finally gotten some sense back and is getting very chatty about how he wants to play with the boys again. So, of course that means I am going to have to go. I just hope its somewhere within a reasonable distance. Anyway, so I'm thinking that Riley is probably about ready to attend a real show. He is coming up on 5 now, and like I said, has shown an appreciation for good music. I actually remember that my Mom brought me to the Simon & Garfunkel show in central park (1980?) From what I remember, it was crowded, lots of 'funny' cigarettes and a lot of fun. Anyone out there bring their kids to shows? I'd love to hear your thoughts if you have any...

May Update

Things are busy in the Harris house these days. Both Riley and Sophie are in school 3 half days per week. School is over next week, so it already time for summer break. Leslie has been enjoying her 'time off' when the kids are at school. Shes been combing the thrift stores for deals to resell on Ebay. I've been very surprised at some of her finds and how much she can make on them.

The garden in officially in full force. Jalepenos, Green Peppers, Green Beans, Onions, Tomatoes, Cucumbers are all coming in now. Well, maybe a few weeks for the tomatoes to ripen, but I can tell that there will be a bunch of them.

I have been very busy at work developing lots of cool stuff for clients. I recently finished up an flight planning airway viewer that has weather radar and all sorts of cool features. Check it out here.
